Chinese regulators have called Tesla representatives to talk about the quality and safety of the company’s cars, writes Bloomberg.
Authorities have held talks with heads of Tesla divisions in Beijing and Shanghai after customers complained about problems with the cars. For example, they were worried about malfunctions when driving an electric car, as well as a battery fire. Tesla offered to improve vehicle handling, as well as comply with Chinese laws and protect consumer rights.
The company agreed with the requirements and noted a number of shortcomings in its business processes. The PRC market is very important for Tesla. Last year, the company sold 120,000 cars in Kita (more in the US only). In January, the auto giant sold 15,484 electric cars. Tesla has further potential for growth in China, analysts say.
In general, sales of cars on alternative energy sources in China in January increased by 290.6 percent (up to 168 thousand units). Sales of all-electric cars skyrocketed 325.8 percent on an annualized basis (up to 141,000 cars).
Earlier it became known that Mercedes-Benz plans to rely on the production of luxury electric vehicles and compete with Tesla. Porsche has similar plans.
