Since the beginning of 2021, electronics has risen sharply in Russia, Izvestia writes with reference to market participants.
The retailers interviewed by the publication said that the rise in prices since the beginning of the year was from five to 20 percent, depending on the categories of goods. They associate the current situation with the global shortage of the main components from which electronics are made – matrices, memory cards, displays and video cards.
Most of these components are produced in China, where production traditionally drops at the beginning of the year due to the New Year’s holidays according to the lunar calendar. The shortage of video cards is separately caused by the growing excitement around bitcoin due to its rise in price. Cryptocurrency mining requires hardware that includes a video card.
Retailers noted that the volume of imports of electronics to Russia decreased at the end of last year. They expect his recovery in March-May.
According to experts, purchase prices in China in 2021 increased by 10-15 percent. This value should be added 2-3 percent due to logistics problems.
In turn, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that it has not yet received messages from domestic retailers about plans to increase the price of electronics sold. The agency’s message is quoted by TASS.
