Babariko called “extreme point” of political crisis in Belarus

Belarusian oppositionist, former head of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko called the “extreme point” of the political crisis in the country. He spoke about this in an interview with Deutsche Welle from the SIZO of the State Security Committee (KGB).

In his opinion, the situation in Belarus can further develop according to two scenarios: either a new country, economically and politically independent, or its termination.

“One of these roads will have to be chosen in the near future – the economy will not allow the current state to last long. It was once said very precisely:” Politics is a concentrated expression of the economy. “Therefore, the extreme point is 2025, but I would like to think that this is a fantastically long period. I am for the first option, “he said.

Babariko added that he does not consider what is happening in the country as massive repressions.

“For almost eight months I have been in physical and communication isolation, I receive most of the news from Belarusian television – and watching it can be equated with moral torture. But even in this situation, I can say that what is happening in our country cannot be called mass repressions. In fact, this is a war of the ruling elite, relying on the military power bloc, and therefore the junta, against part of its people, “he is sure.

At the same time, Babariko believes that the political crisis can escalate into a civil war. In his opinion, the authorities should not allow people to hate each other “just because they love symbols of different colors”.

In Belarus, mass protests continue for six months due to the official results of the presidential elections, according to which Alexander Lukashenko won 80 percent of the vote, and the main opposition candidate, the wife of the arrested blogger Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, received 10 percent. The first actions were violently dispersed using special means. A number of opposition politicians and activists were arrested or fled the country. Lukashenko himself claims that Western countries are behind what is happening.
