The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus has promised not to allow unauthorized protest actions during the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, which will be held on February 11 and 12. Interfax-Zapad reports this.
“Law enforcers will not allow any unauthorized actions against the background of an important public and political event,” the ministry said. “Any illegal actions [will] be suppressed, and each of them will be given a legal assessment.”
Traffic on a number of streets in Minsk will be limited. The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained this by the expected snowfall.
Earlier, Telegram channel NEXTA, actively covering the protests, called on citizens to take to the streets on February 11 and 12.
The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly has been held every five years since 1996. President Alexander Lukashenko said that at the upcoming event, amendments to the Constitution may be indicated.
Mass protests against the official presidential elections have continued in Belarus since August 9, with Lukashenko, who has been leading the country since 1994, declared the winner.
