The government will instruct the Russian Environmental Operator (REO) by 2021 to increase to 42 percent the share of the Russian population sorting waste separately. This is 1.6 times more than a year earlier, writes RBC.
As of March 2020, separate waste collection was available only for 27.2 million people (18.5 percent of the population of Russia). Now the authorities want to involve almost half of the citizens in separate waste collection. It has been partially implemented in 71 of 85 regions.
There are over 92 thousand bins for separate waste collection in the country. However, full provision requires about 420 thousand containers worth 5.2 billion rubles.
