The Minister of Finance and Vice-Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz was urgently summoned to the Bundestag for a hearing on Nord Stream 2. This is reported by the German edition Spiegel.
Representatives of the Green Party insisted on this. It is reported that at this moment Scholz, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, took part in a government meeting dedicated to the fight against coronavirus.
Earlier it was reported that Scholz offered the administration of the 45th US President Donald Trump to help import American liquefied gas in exchange for lifting sanctions on the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to media reports, the German government was ready to provide the United States with financial support of up to one billion euros.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea was supposed to be commissioned at the end of 2019. However, its completion was hampered, in particular, by the threat of sanctions from the United States, due to which European companies began to leave the project.
