In Belgium, 28 searches took place at Chechens belonging to a charitable organization, which is suspected of collecting money for banned terrorist organizations, including the Caucasus Emirate. DH Les Sport newspaper reports about it.
The raid was carried out about a week ago, but for the purposes of investigation, information about it was not disclosed. No arrest warrants were issued by the police following the searches.
In November 2020, Chechens living in France complained about searches and detentions after the murder of teacher Samuel Pati near Paris. At the same time, it was noted that no illegal persecution by the French authorities on the basis of nationality was observed.
The arrests of Chechens in Europe were also reported in January of the same year – a large-scale operation in Germany began because of photographs of the synagogue, which one of the detainees took on the phone in September 2019. In 2016, the German special services conducted searches in 12 apartments and one dormitory where the natives of Chechnya lived who had applied for asylum in Germany. They were suspected of financing terrorism.
