The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a 17 percent decrease in the number of people infected with coronavirus in the week from 1 to 7 February. This is reported on the website of the organization.
According to WHO, the increase in infected people has been declining for the fourth week in a row. Also, during this period, compared with the previous week, there were 10 percent fewer deaths from COVID-19.
The organization’s specialists especially noted the decline in the incidence in Africa (22 percent) and Europe (19 percent), as well as in the Americas (17 percent). Mortality rates in these regions fell by 30, 13 and 4 percent, respectively. In Southeast Asia, mortality declined by 21 percent and in the Eastern Mediterranean by 16 percent.
Earlier, WHO noted a slowdown in the spread of coronavirus infection. A large role in this trend has been played by government actions to inform the population about the necessary measures to protect against infection, the training of health workers and efforts in the framework of vaccination campaigns for people. At the same time, the organization called on countries to continue to comply with measures to combat the pandemic, as they are going through a critical stage.
