Belarus called on the OSCE to pursue a policy of “containment” on the deployment of foreign troops. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense of the republic.
Major General Oleg Voinov, Head of the Department of International Military Cooperation, spoke at the OSCE seminar. He stated that the policy of Belarus is based on peacefulness and a multi-vector approach.
Voinov listed the measures to strengthen international and regional security offered by Minsk. Among them is the “freezing” of the build-up of military potentials and expenditures, the scale and intensity of military activity. In the long term, this should reduce tensions in the region and increase trust between stakeholders.
Belarus also called for negotiations to begin on a new conventional arms control regime in Europe, and to reaffirm a ban on the deployment of ground-based ballistic and cruise missiles with a launch range of 500 to 5500 kilometers.
Minsk also proposes to pursue a policy of “containment” to deploy “additional military facilities and military units of the armed forces of other states” on its territory.
Earlier, Lukashenka was concerned about the buildup of NATO’s military presence near the CSTO borders.
