The Latvian National Council for Electronic Media has decided to block the retransmission of 16 more Russian TV channels in the country, the state television and radio company Public Broadcasting of Latvia reports.
The decision was made on the basis of the absence of official representatives of the channels in the republic. The authorities also assured that they could not find out the opinion of their owners about the desire to continue broadcasting in the country.
It is noted that REN TV Baltic, NTV MIR Baltic, Karusel International, NTV Serial, NTV Style, NTV Pravo, Kinomiks, Our new cinema, Native cinema, Indian cinema, Kinokomedy, KVN TV, Kitchen TV were added to the “black list” , Boxing TV and HD Life.
Earlier it was reported that the Latvian cable television operator Tet from February 1 stopped broadcasting the Russian First Channel, NTV Mir, REN TV Baltiya, Kinokomediya and Kinomix. The management of the company noted that the restrictions were imposed due to “ambiguities in the right to represent channels” and “concern over compliance with the sanctions regime.”
Later, the Latvian Seimas adopted amendments to the Law “On Protected Services”, according to which individuals will be fined for watching illegal content using satellite television. Previously, the penalty was applied only for commercial broadcasting of TV channels.
