An employee of the Iranian Armed Forces was suspected of involvement in the murder of nuclear physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Mahmoud Alavi on the air of the TV channel IRIB TV2, RIA Novosti reports.
The Minister noted that the intelligence knew about the impending attempt on the physicist and where it would happen, but the time was not known. The department reported this to the relevant authorities five days before the murder. “The man who was engaged in the first preparatory actions for the assassination attempt was a member of the armed forces,” he said.
The fact that Fakhrizadeh became a victim of a terrorist attack near Tehran became known on November 27. First, a suicide bomber was blown up on the spot, and then the scientist’s car was fired upon. Several people were killed in the attack. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani blamed Israel for the incident. US intelligence officials linked the assassination of a nuclear physicist to the plans of US presidential candidate Joe Biden to restore relations with Tehran.
