Most Americans questioned the prosperity of democracy in the United States. This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by the Associated Press in conjunction with the National Center for the Study of Public Opinion at the University of Chicago.
Only 16 percent of Americans said democracy functions well or very well. At the same time, 45 percent of respondents believe that democracy is not functioning properly, and another 38 percent – that it works only partially.
It is noted that this figure has especially decreased among supporters of the US Republican Party. The publication connects this with the statements of the former President of the country Donald Trump about the falsification of the presidential election. In October, 68 percent of Republican respondents were of the opinion that the principles of democracy are respected at least partially. However, in January the figure fell to 36 percent. The Democrats are showing the opposite trend: this figure has grown from 37 to 70 percent since autumn.
Earlier it was reported that the majority of Americans (63 percent) positively assess the work of US President Joe Biden in the first days after the inauguration. According to the study, the Democrat is the most supportive of Americans in his approach to fighting the coronavirus (69 percent) and governing the country (65 percent) He also enjoys support for his vision of the economy, job creation and the fight against terrorism (61 percent).
