Developers of the Perl programming language reported the successful completion of the domain return process perl.com , which was hijacked by an unauthorized person after an account was compromised. The domain return was complicated by the fact that after gaining control over the domain, the attackers changed registrars several times – from the area of responsibility of Network Solutions, the domain was first transferred to the Chinese registrar Bizcn, and then transferred to the service of the registrar Key-Systems GmbH.
The recovery process began with Verisign returning the correct DNS servers for the perl.com domain (in whois output should contain * .bitnames.com servers). The restoration is now complete, the domain is returned to the Network Solutions registrar, who secured linking perl.com to the previous owner.
