The decision to provide former US President Donald Trump with access to classified information will be made by the special services. This was stated by the press secretary of the White House Jen Psaki, according to The Washington Post.
According to her, the incumbent head of state, Joe Biden, expressed concern that Trump would gain access to classified information. At the same time, the politician trusts his own intelligence team, the press secretary assured. In this regard, the special services will decide in what form to provide secret data, if the former president requests them. At the same time, the American leader has the authority to deny access to confidential information to anyone.
Earlier, Biden proposed to deprive the former head of state of access to classified information. “What is the value of holding secret briefings for him? What impact will it have if he doesn’t let it slip and say something?” – he said, pointing to Trump’s “unbalanced” behavior.
Former US presidents traditionally have the right to request and receive the same intelligence briefings they provide to incumbent heads of state.
On January 14, the US House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump in connection with the riots in Washington. The last vote was the second attempt to remove Trump from office. Democrats motivate the decision to impeach Trump, including by the fact that after the end of the process, he will not be able to run for president. This is the first time the US has attempted to remove a state leader from office after the end of his presidential term. It was reported that the process to impeach Trump in the US Senate will begin on February 8.
