In the United States, they wanted to allow transgender people to participate in women’s competitions, writes the International Association of Sports Press (AIPS Media).
For this, a working group has already been created, it includes Olympic champions and leaders. Its mission is to “find ways to protect girls and women” and allow transgender people to compete in women’s competitions.
In an official statement, the group indicated that there has been a long debate in the United States over the possibility of transgender people participating in women’s competitions. Opponents point out that “transgender girls are boys,” and thus have some fitness benefits. Others insist that transgender people should be encouraged to participate in women’s competitions. However, they do not take into account their physical characteristics, the group points out.
“We ask [President Joe] Biden’s administration and Congress to adopt an ethical and evidence-based approach to protecting girls and women’s sports,” the statement said.
In July 2019, a transgender weightlifter from New Zealand, Laurel Hubbard, was criticized by a number of social organizations. It has been noted that, being officially a woman, she “enjoys the physical benefits” that men have.
