American scientists have named the reasons for re-infection with coronavirus. Researchers from Yale University School of Medicine published their findings in BMJ Case Reports.
Experts who have studied the second wave of coronavirus infection in those who have already had COVID-19, note that the reason can be either re-infection due to weak immunity, or reactivation of the remains of the coronavirus in the patient’s body.
Researchers believe that a person can become infected with coronavirus twice, and positive test results over a long period of time do not necessarily indicate a virus shedding all the time. At the same time, they found out that with repeated infection, residual immunity can help fight the disease, and the disease is more often mild.
Earlier, the physician Sergei Voznesensky called the differences between the residual symptoms of COVID-19 and re-infection. Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the RUDN University said that, as a rule, after a previous illness, symptoms are not observed, but some may still persist. We are talking about weakness, sweating, mild fever, malaise, lack of smell and a decrease in taste.
