German Chancellor Angela Merkel commented on the situation with the coronavirus in an interview with RTL TV channel. According to her, the peak of the second wave has already passed.
Merkel urged citizens to “hold out a little more”. She noted that with the start of vaccinations, hospitals will not be so overwhelmed, as the elderly will become less sick. “I see a faint light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s an incredibly difficult time,” she said.
The Chancellor added that the pandemic was “too long” both for her personally and for citizens. Despite this, coronavirus vaccines have appeared quite quickly, she stressed.
Earlier, Merkel warned citizens about the serious danger of the mutated coronavirus. According to her, a new strain of the virus found in Germany threatens the country. On January 20, she extended tough restrictions to combat the spread of infection until February 14.
