Samsung “buried” popular smartphones

Samsung has stopped releasing updates for some popular smartphones. This is reported on the company’s website.

The Korean corporation has updated the technical information section for its devices. The Galaxy J3 Pop, Galaxy A3 2017, Galaxy A5 2017 and Galaxy A7 2017 are missing from the list of smartphones that have stopped receiving security updates. All devices were introduced in 2017. Thus, the company “buried” these devices and stopped supporting them.

According to the content of the updated support page, the company has committed to deliver monthly security patches to modern smartphones. The list includes devices of the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 20 series and other devices. Security updates will be available quarterly to Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy M10, Galaxy A70 and more.

The owners of the current flagships of the Korean corporation can count on prompt receipt of updates. These include the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S21 series, introduced in August 2020 and January 2021, respectively.

Previously, Samsung said it was extending the support period for its smartphones to four years. The company’s devices will receive Android updates for three years, security updates for four years. The innovation concerns future devices based on Qualcomm processors.
