In 2020, the US wind power industry developed at the fastest pace in history. The country has relied on this industry – the number of wind turbines in the United States has almost doubled compared to 2019. The indicator has reached a record level, writes Bloomberg
The total capacity of the new installations was 17 gigawatts, which is enough to supply more than five million homes with electricity. In total, wind farms in the United States provide about 122 gigawatts of power. That’s enough to power 38 million homes.
Earlier it became known that in the largest onshore wind power park in Europe Markbygden (under construction in Sweden), they are going to install giant wind turbines 300 meters high. Their size will be comparable to the height of the Eiffel Tower.
It is planned that by the end of the decade, 1101 installations will operate on the territory of the park. They will cover about eight percent of Sweden’s electricity needs. The total capacity of wind farms in Europe last year reached 153.7 gigawatts, second only to thermal power plants (they run on natural gas). At the same time, the energy obtained from wind turbines accounted for 10.4 percent of the total electricity consumption in European countries.
