Nine years after the last release kit release GNU inetutils 2.0 with a collection of networking programs, most of which are ported from BSD systems. In particular, includes inetd and syslogd, servers and clients for ftp, telnet, rsh, rlogin, tftp and talk, as well as common utilities such as ping, ping6, traceroute, whois, hostname, dnsdomainname, ifconfig, logger, etc.
Among the changes:
- Traceroute and ping implement a method for sending ICMP ECHOREQUEST requests, which requires less privileges on GNU / Linux.
- Ifconfig has added support for changing MAC addresses in GNU / Linux, added additional statistics for BSD systems, and improved GNU / Hurd support.
- Added support for “user @ host” format to ftp and porting for Android platform.
- Added support for the AIX platform to tftpd.
- Solaris OS support has been improved in telnetd.
