US President Joe Biden proposed to deprive former head of state Donald Trump of access to classified information. RIA Novosti reports.
According to Biden, there is no need to hold secret briefings for his predecessor. “What is the value of holding secret briefings for him? What impact will it have if he does not let it slip and say something?” – said the US President in an interview with CBS. He also pointed to Trump’s “unbalanced” behavior.
Former US presidents traditionally have the right to request and receive the same intelligence briefings they provide to incumbent heads of state.
Earlier, Joe Biden doubted that the impeachment process against Donald Trump would be successful. In his opinion, the impeachment will not get the necessary Republican votes in the Senate and will not take place. Biden acknowledged that the process would affect the consideration of his cabinet nominees in the Senate, but noted that it would be worse if the impeachment process was not carried out.
On January 14, the US House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump in connection with the riots in Washington. The last vote was the second attempt to remove Trump from office. Democrats motivate the decision to impeach Trump, including by the fact that after the end of the process, he will not be able to run for president. This is the first time the US has attempted to remove a state leader from office after the end of his presidential term. It was reported that the process of impeachment of former US President Donald Trump in the US Senate will begin on February 8.
