It will take 7 years to vaccinate 75 percent of the world’s population at the current pace. This forecast was shared by Bloomberg.
The publication notes that it is precisely this proportion of the vaccinated population that is needed to end the pandemic and return to normal life. The agency predicts that given the current rates of vaccination, Israel and the UAE are closest to the target – both countries are expected to reach it in two months. In the UK, this process will take six months. The United States will move closer to the coveted mark for the new year, although vaccination rates vary greatly from state to state.
The situation is grimmer in Canada, where vaccination rates have slowed dramatically due to supply problems. If they remain at the same level, the country will need 10 years to vaccinate three quarters of its citizens. A similar period has been named for Russia and India. The agency also predicted that vaccination of 75 percent of the population would take 2.5 years in Italy, 3.1 years in Germany, 3.8 years in France, and 5 and a half years in China.
Earlier, the World Health Organization said it had no information that vaccination reduces the risk of transmission of coronavirus. “Since there is no evidence yet of the effect of the vaccine on the transmission of the virus, it is necessary to continue to adhere to non-pharmaceutical measures [to contain the virus], including wearing masks, physical distancing, washing hands, and so on,” the organization explained.
