The Czech Republic turned out to be powerless in the face of the pandemic – the restrictions stopped working because the population did not want to comply with them. This was stated by the head of the country’s Ministry of Health Jan Blatny, quoted by CT24.
“The fatigue of people is understandable due to the many restrictions imposed in connection with the coronavirus. But without these forced measures, we will never defeat the pandemic,” the minister said. He explained that at first the number of infections was decreasing, but gradually people stopped observing the restrictions, which caused new outbreaks.
He added that the impotence of the authorities is also caused by the rapid spread of the mutation of the coronavirus – the British strain.
A new coronavirus mutation was first discovered in the UK in September 2020, but it began to spread actively in December. The changes affected the area of the spike protein on the surface of the coronavirus, which is responsible for attaching to cells located in the mucous membrane of the lungs and a number of other organs. This variant of the virus appears to spread more easily and can lead to an increase in cases, deaths and hospitalizations. To date, the British strain has been found in 60 countries.
