The rebellious island of Taiwan, whose authorities are trying to achieve international recognition as an independent state, and China considers its own territory, saved the United States and other countries in a trade war with Beijing, writes CNBC.
At the beginning of 2021, a crisis situation developed in the automotive industry. Many manufacturers around the world are complaining about a shortage of chips and microcircuits needed in their production.
Due to the current situation, car factories around the world are forced to suspend the work of assembly lines. The situation is exacerbated by restrictions imposed by the former US administration led by Donald Trump on Chinese chipmakers.
Taiwan and the island-based Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), one of the largest players in the global market, took advantage of this. In the nearest future the corporation plans to open a new plant in the USA worth 12 billion dollars.
Washington has already thanked Taipei for helping to resolve the crisis. TSMC’s production volumes are expected to be sufficient to meet the needs of most manufacturers.
Meanwhile, the shortage of microcircuits in the near future may affect other industries, including the production of household appliances, smartphones and computers.
