The Ministry of Transport will consider the project of toll travel on a number of roads in Moscow and Moscow region The corresponding strategy was developed by order of the Directorate of the Moscow Transport Hub, and its approval is expected in the first quarter of this year. The Izvestia newspaper reports this.
The project is part of the Strategy for the Development of the Transport System of the Moscow Region until 2035. According to a representative of the Ministry of Transport, the introduction of a flexible toll system for Moscow highways is only possible beyond the horizon of 2030.
So, in the current version of the project we are talking about charging a fare in proportion to the length of the trip. System
e-road pricing also takes into account the type of vehicle, the category of the road section, the time and place of travel. Payment will be made contactless.
According to the document, certain categories of citizens should be able to access such roads free of charge. For this, in particular, it is proposed to introduce certain time intervals for free travel.
The Ministry of Transport explained that the idea requires further discussions with the relevant departments and the public. The economic feasibility of the innovation will be calculated, as well as its impact on the welfare of citizens. The ministry recalled that, according to current laws, it is possible to transfer specific sections of the highway to the toll category only if there is a free alternative.
