The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that there are no plans to scale up government intervention in the trade sector, including pricing. His words are quoted by TASS.
Earlier on Wednesday, February 3, the minister held a meeting with representatives of federal and regional retail chains. The participants of the event touched upon the subject of agreements on stabilization of prices for sunflower oil and sugar, concluded at the end of last year.
The head of the department noted that it is necessary to ensure compliance with agreements, as well as to use market instruments to the maximum in order to avoid a sharp rise in commodity prices in the future.
Representatives of retail chains stressed that it is the preservation of market mechanisms in trade that will ensure an abundance of products on store shelves.
Earlier, analysts said that in February inflation in Russia will be 5.5 percent in annual terms, which will be the peak value for the year. The largest jump in prices – 5.8 percent – promises the head of the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis of Alfa-Bank Natalia Orlova. According to her, such a situation will be caused by the growth in the cost of food, which cannot be stopped by the government, as well as the situation with the ruble exchange rate at the beginning of the year.
