During the coronavirus pandemic, the number of Russians with bank loans has decreased, follows from the Central Bank’s review on the dynamics of the population’s debt burden. The document was published on the regulator’s website.
In the second quarter of 2020, which was the peak of the spread of the pandemic, the number of bank borrowers decreased by 0.8 million. At the same time, the number of clients of microfinance organizations (MFOs) decreased by 158 thousand.
The decline in the second quarter was partially offset in the third, when the number of people with loans rose to 41.9 million. However, the figure is still less than before the start of the pandemic – 42.1 million.
The Central Bank also calculated the number of borrowers with debts to banks or MFOs: 36.1 million (86.4 percent) and 2.5 million (six percent), respectively. Another 3.2 million people have debts to both banks and microfinance organizations.
On average, each bank borrower as of October 1, 2020 had 1.9 actual loans. The figure has remained largely unchanged since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, the number of bank clients with unsecured loans decreased by 0.8 million.
