President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko phoned the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov. This was reported on February 3 by the Telegram-channel “Pool of the First”, close to the press service of Lukashenko.
The parties discussed the format of the Communist Party’s participation in the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, relations between the two countries and the latest events in Russia, it was reported.
The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly is scheduled for February 11-12. Lukashenka said earlier that amendments to the Constitution could be identified at the event. However, they can only be adopted in a referendum.
Zyuganov supported Lukashenko. In September 2020, in an interview with ONT, he stated that those who promise Belarus democracy, in fact, want to seize its property. “Don’t listen to these scoundrels who don’t want anything good,” the communist assured.
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on August 9, 2020. The CEC announced that Lukashenka, who ran for a sixth term, received 80 percent of the vote. This has sparked massive protests across the country that have lasted for almost six months.
