The office of former US President Donald Trump spoke about the appointment of two lawyers who will lead his team of lawyers in the Senate impeachment trial. This became known to the Axios portal.
The interests of the former leader of the country will be represented by lawyers David Shen and Bruce L. Castor Jr. It is noted that Trump announced the new appointments after two lawyers who were supposed to represent him at the impeachment process in the Senate – Deborah Barbier and Butch Bowers – left the team.
According to a statement from the office of the former leader of the country, lawyer David Shen has already worked with the 45th President and other advisers in preparation for the upcoming trial and that the lawyers “agree that this impeachment is unconstitutional.” p>
Earlier it was reported that Trump lost five lawyers who were developing a defense strategy for an impeachment case in the US Senate. The reason for the disagreement could be Trump’s desire to build his defense on the fact that the US presidential election he lost was allegedly rigged, and not on the legality of impeachment after the expiration of the presidential term.
The impeachment process will begin after February 8. The resolution contains one article of the charge – incitement to rebellion. Trump became the first president in US history to be impeached twice.
On January 14, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump over the riots in Washington.
On January 6, Trump protesters stormed the Capitol Building and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which they planned to approve the results of the last elections. During the protests, police detained nearly 70 rioters, killing five.
