President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the country an island of security in Europe, BelTA informs.
In 2020, Belarus was forced to pay special attention to security, and to some it might seem like saber rattling, Lukashenko said at a meeting with the head of the State Border Committee.
“Nothing of the kind. We have never rattled and are not going to rattle our weapons. We, as before, want to be an island of security in Europe and a country from which only peaceful initiatives come. This is our prospect,” the head of state assured. / p>
At the same time, he added that history teaches us to be ready to respond to any provocation. According to Lukashenka, no country has such border protection as Belarus does. “I emphasize once again: our responsibility here is not only for Belarus, but also for the Russians,” the president said. He called the border a mirror and the face of the state.
In Belarus, mass protests continue for six months, demanding Lukashenko’s resignation and new presidential elections. The Belarusian leader himself claimed that the West was behind the events.
He, in particular, stated that on the western borders of the country there is a “escalation of the situation” under the “lulling” by the United States and NATO. Lukashenko also assured that NATO is creating a group to capture the west of Belarus.
