The Governor of the US state of Texas Greg Abbott has threatened to sue US President Joe Biden for promoting “hostile” plans to overcome the climate crisis. Reported by The Independent.
Criticizing Biden, Abbott explained that the decrees signed by the head of the White House in the framework of the fight against climate change will undermine the production of oil and gas in his state. At the same time, the governor did not limit himself to words – he signed an order allowing the court to challenge the initiatives approved by the new US president and his administration.
By signing the relevant document, he assured the industry representatives that he would save their jobs. “Texas will defend the oil and gas industry from any hostile attack from Washington,” he stressed.
On January 28, it was reported that Biden angered the oil workers by signing a decree to stop issuing new licenses for the development of “black gold” and gas deposits on state lands and offshore. It was clarified that the measure was taken to combat climate change.
During the presidency of Barack Obama, the United States promised to cut emissions by 26-28 percent by 2025 compared to 2005 levels, but could not even come close to this goal. Progress on emission reductions virtually stalled during Donald Trump’s presidency.
