Release of Nitrux 1.3.7 distribution with NX Desktop

Published distribution release Nitrux 1.3.7 , built on the Ubuntu package base, KDE technologies, and the OpenRC init system. The distribution develops its own NX Desktop desktop, which is an add-on to the KDE Plasma user environment. The AppImages self-contained package system and its own NX Software Center are being promoted to install additional applications. The boot image is 4.3 GB in size. Developments of the project are distributed under free licenses.

NX Desktop offers a different style, its own implementation of the system tray, notification center and various plasmoids such as a network configurator and a multimedia applet for volume control and playback control of multimedia content. Among the applications developed by the project, an interface for configuring the NX Firewall is also distinguished, which allows you to control network access at the level of individual applications.
Basic applications include: Index file manager
(Dolphin can also be used), Kate text editor, Ark archiver, Konsole terminal emulator, Chromium browser, VVave music player, VLC video player, LibreOffice office suite and Pix image viewer.

In the new release:

  • Added new versions of packages with Linux kernel
5.10.10 LTS and 5.9.16. Desktop components have been updated to KDE Plasma 5.20.5, KDE Frameworks 5.78.0 and KDE Applications 20.12.1.
  • By default, the new Ditto application menu is enabled, which replaces the old NX Simplemenu menu. Ditto does not support the distribution of applications into sections, all applications are mixed and displayed in a single list.

By default, Ditto displays icons for all available applications, but through the settings, you can return the old behavior of NX Simplemenu, which showed frequently used applications by default. In the settings, you can also change the output format, menu location, and size of the thumbnail area.
