The agreements on stabilization of prices for sugar and sunflower oil, which the Russian authorities concluded with producers, gave the market a signal that such an agreement will not be needed for eggs – they have decided not to limit prices for them yet. The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov spoke about this, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
When asked if a similar agreement on egg prices is possible, he replied: “I think not.” Manturov pointed out that the existing agreements on butter and sugar have yielded results. “Still, even the existing agreements on two products, on butter and sugar, have yielded tangible results, in fact, a signal that colleagues can reach an agreement in time,” the minister explained.
According to Rosstat, chicken eggs in Russia rose by 15.1 percent in 2020, and by 13.2 percent in December (compared to November). According to market participants, this was due to the closure of a number of poultry farms in southern Russia due to an outbreak of bird flu. In this regard, a deficit has formed in a number of regions. The problems in the southern regions were confirmed by the Lenta trade network. X5 Retail Group and Magnet have eliminated stock shortages.
Against the backdrop of rising food prices at the end of last year, the government signed a number of agreements to stabilize prices for sugar and Russian-made sunflower oil. Now the maximum prices for sugar should be 36 rubles per kilogram in wholesale and 46 rubles in retail, for sunflower oil – 95 rubles and 110 rubles, respectively. The agreements are valid until April.
