The way the Chinese Air Force (Air Force) simulated an “attack” on a US aircraft carrier in Taiwan waters can be called a threat to Washington. This is reported by the Financial Times with reference to American intelligence.
The newspaper notes that Beijing’s development of missiles capable of striking American ships and aircraft in Taiwan could help “counter America’s military dominance in Asia and the Western Pacific.” This will supposedly force Washington to change its policy in the region.
Chinese bombers and fighters deployed in the recent exercise used a group of US Navy ships alongside the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier as targets. The Financial Times believes the data confirms “intense military rivalry between the two superpowers,” which includes Taiwan’s ownership.
According to sources, the incident occurred three days after the inauguration of President Joe Biden. It happened in the air defense zone. According to the Taiwan Ministry of Defense, Beijing sent 11 aircraft to the exercise on January 23, and January 15-24.
Beijing has not controlled Taiwan since 1949, when, after losing the civil war, the Communists fled there and presented the Kuomintang party. At the same time, the PRC continues to consider the island as its part. The United States, in turn, does not formally have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, but de facto maintains contacts with the administration of the island.
