The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus has counted the number of adolescents who participated in protests in 2020. Interfax – Zapad reported about it on January 29.
“More than 1.2 thousand young citizens took part in the protest actions,” the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Teenage crime has decreased by 20.4 percent over the year, according to the ministry. At the same time, the number of crimes in public places related to violence against police officers and resistance to them increased – 2.5 times and 1.5 times, respectively.
“Protest actions in the post-electoral period and open confrontation with law enforcement agencies have become a kind of test for every employee,” said Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakov.
Mass protests in Belarus began after the presidential elections on August 9. According to official data, Alexander Lukashenko, who ran for a sixth term, won 80 percent of the vote. The protesters demand his resignation and a new, fair vote.
The first shares were accelerated. About 7 thousand people were detained. Many of them talked about torture and beatings in detention centers. A number of opposition politicians have been arrested or have fled the country.
