Moldovan President Maia Sandu asked parliamentary deputies to reject her proposed Prime Minister in order to speed up the process of its dissolution and early elections, reports “Sputnik Moldova”.
According to Moldovan legislation, the president has the right to dissolve parliament if he fails to elect a new head of the cabinet within three months. “We can get closer to the elections if the parliamentary vote does not lead to anything. Let’s see if the MPs really want early elections,” Sandu explained.
She noted that the constitution does not prohibit the head of state from proposing the same person to the deputies throughout the entire voting period. For this post, the Moldovan leader has nominated the former Minister of Finance of the country, 43-year-old Natalia Gavrilitsa.
On November 5, the second round of the presidential elections took place in Moldova. It was won by former Prime Minister Sandu with 57.75 percent of the vote. Former head of state Igor Dodon received 42.25 percent. Sandu’s inauguration took place on December 24. Later, Dodon himself called on Sandu to initiate the dissolution of parliament and prepare for new elections.
