In recent years, dozens of Russian citizens have been arrested at Washington’s requests. The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova told about this at briefing .
“Attention is drawn to the unacceptable practice of arresting Russian citizens in third countries at the request of US law enforcement agencies. Since 2008, there have been more than 50 such cases, in fact, we are talking about the illegal extraterritorial application of American legislation against Russian citizens,” the diplomat emphasized.
She noted that these are cases related to politically motivated persecution. Zakharova added that such proceedings are becoming “the routine work of the Russian Foreign Ministry.”
On January 15, Zakharova spoke about the risks of degradation of relations with the United States. According to the diplomat, during the four years of Donald Trump’s presidency, Moscow and Washington have failed to mend relations, and they are trying to speak with Russia “in the language of threats and intimidation.”
