Belarus will urgently change laws in connection with internal political crisis

Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Rakhmanov said that during the first quarter of 2021, amendments will be made to the legislation related to the internal political crisis. BelTA informs about it.

“During the first quarter of 2021, the necessary changes to our national legislation will be made,” Rakhmanov said.

According to him, the participants in the meeting with President Alexander Lukashenko considered a wide range of issues on improving the legislative framework so that “it would promptly and promptly respond to any challenges and threats, such as those faced by our country in the second half of 2020.”

Among such challenges and threats, Rakhmanov named unauthorized mass events that grew into resistance to the security forces.

Earlier on January 28, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei accused the opposition of trying to establish a “fascist democracy” regime.

On January 22, the former presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya predicted a second wave of protests in the country. According to her, mass demonstrations in Belarus will resume in the spring – at present, the protest actions are not so large-scale due to the cold, the opposition leader explained.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that at the upcoming All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, amendments to the Constitution may be outlined. Their adoption is possible only at a referendum. According to him, the constitutional reform will affect the political system, not the economy. At the same time, Lukashenka stressed that in recent years a lot has been done in the country towards the liberalization of legal norms.

In Belarus, protests have been going on for almost half a year demanding Lukashenka’s resignation and new elections.
