Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei commented on the actions of the Belarusian opposition, calling them “outrageous democracy.” BelTA informs about it.
“Knowing many people who are abroad, what they say and offer in relation to Belarus and the Belarusian people, I am convinced that if such people come to power, it will be a fascist democracy,” he accused the opposition of trying to establish an undemocratic mode.
Makei noted that not everything is perfect in the country and much needs to be improved, but this should happen “not under the dictation of external curators, not under pressure from the street, not through a revolution that brings only blood and tears, but within law “.
On January 22, the former presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya predicted a second wave of protests in the country. According to her, mass demonstrations in Belarus will resume in the spring – at present, the protest actions are not so large-scale due to the cold, the opposition leader explained.
Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that at the upcoming All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, amendments to the Constitution may be outlined. Their adoption is possible only at a referendum. According to him, the constitutional reform will affect the political system, not the economy. At the same time, Lukashenka stressed that in recent years a lot has been done in the country towards the liberalization of legal norms.
In Belarus, protests have been going on for almost half a year demanding Lukashenka’s resignation and new elections.
