RG-100 plasmatron tests completed

Specialists of the Keldysh Center (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) have developed an electric arc heater RG-100 (plasmatron) with an average power of 30-40 kW, with an outlet gas temperature of up to 5500K for use in the development of new technologies for rocket and space technology, as well as in various industries.

The main feature of the RG-100 plasmatron is a gas-vortex chamber, which ensures a stable operating mode during the entire service life. The service life of the electrode is 500 hours, while replacing it with a new one is greatly simplified and is carried out within 10 minutes. The pressure in the chamber is atmospheric, the arc current is 120-180A, the voltage is 180-300V. A control system with current regulation and remote control with regulation of operating modes has been introduced. The plasmatron has small dimensions, its length is 230 mm, and its diameter is 80 mm. The weight of the entire structure is 6 kilograms.

Plasmatron RG-100 has a wide application, in particular, it can be used for decontamination and disposal of waste, obtaining fine powders of materials, when processing or spraying powder materials, in plasma chemistry for carrying out reactions in a plasma environment (methane pyrolysis, recovery of pure substances from oxides, etc.), for remelting refractory and highly pure materials, for firing up boiler furnaces.

The Keldysh Center has a full cycle of design, manufacture and turnkey supply of experimental installations with electric arc heaters of various capacities and purposes.
