A man from the US state of California was arrested on suspicion of making improvised explosive devices and allegedly planning attacks against Democratic politicians after the defeat of Republican Donald Trump in the presidential election. The New York Post reports this with reference to the police.
43-year-old American Ian Benjamin Rogers was arrested in January. Law enforcers found 49 firearms, a significant stock of ammunition, five fully finished homemade bombs, and instructions on how to create explosive devices.
Rogers, an auto mechanic, claims he collected bombs for fun. However, there is clear evidence from his telephone messages that he was plotting against the authorities. “I really want to blow up the Democratic building,” he wrote in one message. In another, after the storming of the Capitol, he writes: “Let’s see what happens if nothing happens – I will declare war.”
It is also reported that he was about to leave the explosives in the building of the Democratic governor’s office. As noted by the police, the attacker is a big fan of ex-President Donald Trump.
Trump supporters protesters against the election results broke into the Capitol building on January 6 and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the last elections. Dozens of people were detained, five people died.
