President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that difficult times await the country due to attempts to “shake and shake” it from abroad, BelTA informs.
According to him, he has been observing attempts to destabilize the situation since the middle of last year, and now the same process is taking place in Russia. “There are no surprises for us and for them,” Lukashenka said. He added that the leadership of Belarus must learn to resist “its external and internal enemies”.
Lukashenko has repeatedly stated that the protests that have been going on in the country since August 2020 were “provoked” from abroad. He explained the continuation of the actions to this day by closed borders due to the coronavirus pandemic. The President also said that he was not going to resign “until the last riot policeman says to leave.”
In Belarus, protests have continued for the sixth month after the presidential elections on August 9. The actions are harshly suppressed by the security forces. Tens of thousands of people were detained, and many spoke of torture and beatings in isolation wards. Four people were killed in clashes with security forces.
