The mayor of the American city of Portland sprayed pepper spray in the face of a man who argued with him about wearing masks. This is reported by the NBC channel with reference to the police report.
According to the publication, Mayor Ted Wheeler was leaving the pub when he was approached by a stranger who was not wearing a mask. Filming what was happening on the phone, the man accused the politician of not wearing a mask while sitting in a restaurant, as required by the rules. In response, Wheeler explained that he was sitting on the veranda. He added that personal protective equipment can be removed while eating.
The man did not calm down and followed the mayor to his car. Wheeler said the stranger got too close, which caused the politician to feel very anxious, and he sprayed pepper spray in his eyes. The mayor, in his defense, stated that he was afraid of contracting the coronavirus.
