The Russian metallurgical company VSMPO-Avisma Corporation has agreed to supply titanium products for the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The conclusion of a long-term contract is stated in a press release of PJSC, which is at the disposal of Lenta.ru.
Russian-made titanium forgings will be used to manufacture the 787 Dreamliner, 777, 767 and 737. Boeing’s suppliers and the company itself will also receive titanium rolled products.
Earlier in January, the US Department of Justice excluded VSMPO-Avisma from the list of companies that are prohibited from buying American goods and technologies due to cooperation with military organizations in their countries. The department admitted that it was wrong to put the company on the “black list”, since an additional check proved it was not involved in unwanted contacts.
The Russian company became aware of the application of sanctions restricting access to American goods and technologies at the end of December. At the same time, it was noted there that the situation will not affect the production process, since only Russian technologies are used in it.
The United States continued to cooperate with VSMPO-Avisma even after the imposition of sanctions against Russia. For Boeing, the company was the primary supplier of highly mechanical titanium products. Former head of VSMPO-Avisma Sergei Stepanov, who left it on January 10, noted that cooperation is unlikely to stop.
