Belarusian who lay for 12 days in intensive care was accused of beating a riot policeman

In Belarus, a protester who was detained for 12 days in intensive care was accused of beating an OMON soldier. Tut.by reports about it on Tuesday, January 16.

The trial is taking place in Minsk. The accused is a 32-year-old individual entrepreneur Viktor Borushko, who was convicted 15 years ago for drug trafficking. He was detained after a protest on October 18. Borushko is charged with intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm to a security officer.

The victim is a riot police officer who introduced himself as Ivan Volokhov in court. His real name is classified. The victim claims that Borushko kicked him, as a result he received a fracture, spent three months on sick leave, two and a half in a cast. He estimated the moral harm at 6 thousand Belarusian rubles (175 thousand Russian), half of which he promised to give to charity.

Borushko assures that he did not beat anyone. According to the defendant, he was walking from the protest march, saw the security officials, got scared and ran. He was knocked down and fell to the ground along with a riot policeman.

At the same time, Borushko said that after the arrest he himself was beaten and abused. “They beat me with a truncheon in the w … stuffed. After that I spent 12 days in intensive care. My legs were so swollen that I could not take off my jeans,” he said.

Borushko’s relatives transferred 3 thousand Belarusian rubles to the orphanage and pledged to compensate the victim for moral damage. As a result, the prosecutor asked for the defendant half of the possible maximum term – 5 years in prison.

In Belarus, protests have continued for five and a half months demanding the resignation of President Alexander Lukashenko and the holding of new elections.
