Mozilla established organization Open Web Docs , aimed to continue to maintain the MDN (Mozilla Developer Network) project as a single platform for publishing documentation for web developers covering technologies supported in modern browsers, including JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and various Web APIs.
In August 2020, the entire MDN team fell victim to layoffs during Mozilla’s downsizing. The Open Web Docs organization has attempted to attract interested companies to co-finance authors who write and keep up to date documentation on MDN. Open Web Docs will make MDN funding independent, and the project itself not tied to individual companies. The main sponsors of Open Web Docs have already included Google, Microsoft, Coil and Igalia, which together contributed $ 620K.
Note: Firefox 85 will be officially released on January 26 in the evening. Today’s announcement on hacks.mozilla.org was published by mistake and immediately withdrawn , the processes of distributing archives to mirrors and preparing the infrastructure for release are not yet complete.
