The new type of coronavirus poses a particular threat to working-class citizens – they die more often than skilled workers. This was announced by UK Health Minister Matt Hancock during a broadcast hosted by The Guardian.
“People employed in low-skilled work or caring for someone are three times more likely to die from COVID-19 than professionals,” he said.
In the same speech, he named the number of people currently in hospitals in the country: there were more than 37 thousand of them. According to the minister, the authorities have launched an extremely effective vaccination program, faster than which only the programs of Israel and the United Arab Emirates pass. More than 80 percent of Britons over 80 have already received the vaccine.
According to official data cited by the American Johns Hopkins Institute, more than 3.6 million coronavirus infections have been recorded in the UK, more than 98 thousand patients have died due to related causes.
