The Ministry of Industry and Trade has named a condition for the sale of so-called economy-class potatoes in Russia. The department explained that now the concept of “economy class food” is not normatively defined, the decision to sell such products is made by businessmen themselves. Interfax reports this with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Last week, the Potato Union offered to sell potatoes 35-55 millimeters in size, packed in nets of 2.5-3 kilograms, to retail chains. The union believes that such potatoes will cost the Russians 15-20 percent cheaper. “There is a wide range of goods in trade. The sales strategy is formed by entrepreneurs independently under the influence of consumer and respect,” the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
The Fruit and Vegetable Union responded to publications in the media that along with potatoes in Russia they can start selling “crooked” cucumbers, which can also be made an economy class product. The organization said it did not discuss the supply of such cucumbers with representatives of retail chains.
Earlier it was reported that direct cucumbers in Russia may become a premium product, you will have to pay extra for them. The Fruit and Vegetable Union noted that currently only ideal shape cucumbers are supplied to the shelves of large stores. The rest of the vegetables are sold at markets or disposed of.
