Lukashenko announced readiness to issue biometric passports to Belarusians

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that everything in the country is ready to issue biometric passports and identification cards to citizens, BelTA writes.

“Now the government and officials are informing that everything is ready: information systems have been formed, the necessary equipment has been purchased, explanatory work has been carried out with the population. You can issue ID cards and new passports even tomorrow,” he said.

Lukashenko added that it remains to create the necessary legal regulation by a corresponding decree. He instructed to study the issue of the expediency of issuing new documents from April 30.

In December 2020, Lukashenko ratified an agreement with Russia on the recognition of visas.

The agreement on the mutual recognition of visas between Russia and Belarus was signed on June 19 last year in Minsk. According to the document, citizens of foreign countries will be able to visit Russia on Belarusian visas and stay on its territory until the expiration of the entry document. Similar rules will apply to the Belarusian side.
