Scientists from Ohio University in the US have identified negative health effects from lack of sleep. This is reported on the university website.
More than 30 thousand athletes participated in the experiment. The specialists analyzed the data with the dynamics of the development of their state of health. Most athletes complained of dizziness, intolerance to bright light, increased fatigue and the appearance of migraines.
According to scientists, such symptoms are typical after a traumatic brain injury. However, the participants in the experiment had no such injuries before. During the study, experts came to the conclusion that the danger lies in the regular lack of sleep at night.
In combination with the stress experienced, people can face complications in their health. Also, sleep deprivation is fraught with loss of concentration.
Earlier, somnologist at the Kazaryan Center for Epileptology and Neurology, Irina Zavalko, said that insomnia, poor sleep and lack of sleep negatively affect the immune system, which makes a person more vulnerable to infectious diseases. In addition, sleep problems lead to disorders of the cardiovascular system and metabolism – towards overweight and obesity. In addition, lack of sleep worsens the psychological state both in the short term – motivation decreases, attention and mood deteriorate, and in the long term – the risk of anxiety and depression increases.
